Art isn’t only for the elite who have enough money to purchase paintings for millions and even billions of dollars.

Black Art is art about those things that are inherently about the experiences of Black people, and it deserves to be named as such.

A few years into the turn of the century, we see a plethora of Black artists creating portraits, and those artworks are being exhibited in the museums and galleries that had once omitted them.

Artists today are looking at still life painting anew by abstracting them or using unorthodox materials to create them.

I create so people can be moved by the work, to feel connected, to feel empowered.

But the value of art deals less with its material qualities and more with its ethereal qualities.

Allegory has been a primary mode of communication in art dating back to ancient civilizations.

The primary thought is that it is idea-driven, challenging traditional notions about art to have audiences engage deeply with the concept behind the artwork.

"It's giving people, the viewer, the observer, a different perspective on black life. It's showing that we rest, that we enjoy luxury, that at some point, we even want to be frivolous."

The sculpture depicts her dramatic suicide by allowing the fatal bite of a venomous snake.

But hotels like Hotel Zena, Viceroy, Eaton DC, and Citizen M are collapsing the gap between sites to see and places to be.

His paintings convey a mastery of thought, exemplifying his understanding of the subject matter, as well as the techniques needed to be regarded as a master painter.

If you’re new to African American history you’re in for a shock. But even for those of us who have read countless books on the subject, it’s still a bit jarring to see the actual tools that enforced slavery as an institution in the US for so long.

"So, obviously being from London, I think it's a little bit disingenuous for me to be here and kind of be like this is American art."

Mutu rejects the ownership that Black women’s bodies are subjected to in their experiences as Black and women.

Atlanta is at the vanguard of Black visual art, serving as a great model for community engagement as art show audiences increase.

"I just wanted to create a space that was flexible, and affordable for a lot of the local artists community here, and it's great."

In addition to the form of his sculptures, he recognizes his culture and the richness of his heritage.
