Black Art Tour at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM)

The resilience of the Black community is unmistakable, demonstrated by their ability to create beauty even in the most challenging times. Before the abolition of slavery, Black artists were already gaining recognition for their contributions to the world of art. The narrative of Black art history extends far beyond the Harlem Renaissance or the confines of February; it predates those periods and persists to this day. Black history is not limited to a specific month; it is a celebration that can and should happen every day.

A noteworthy testament to the richness of Black artistic expression lies within the extensive collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This tour offers a compelling exploration of African American art spanning from the 1850s to the present day, showcasing the depth and diversity of their creative contributions.
