Welcome to The Third Eye Site

I loved staring at the vibrant artworks by Caribbean artists that hung in the dance studio of the Marie Brooks Dance Theater when I was a young dancer. I loved them so much that while at Phillipa Schuyler School for the Gifted and Talented, I enrolled in the art class. I learned so much in that fundamental art class about art history and basic design principles.

I fell in love with art all over again when I enrolled in the contemporary art class during my graduate studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). So, I became a Docent at the High Museum of Art where I conducted tours of the permanent collection. My studies at both SCAD and George Mason University provide me with education in art criticism, theory, and history.

Over the past 10 years, as an art writer, I have amassed a wealth of knowledge about Black art. Black art history doesn't start or stop with the Harlem Renaissance. There is a rich heritage of art making throughout the history of Black people throughout the diaspora. And I want to share that knowledge with all who wish to know it.

Take time to read some of my articles about Black Art. Enter the gallery to discover some of the greatest artists art history has known. Keep up with my blog for my personal musings on art.

Most of all, enjoy!

Sincerely,

Shantay Robinson
