Black Art Tour at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM)

The resilience of Black people is evident by how many were able to create beauty during the harshest times. You will find that as soon as Black people had the freedom to live as full human beings, they did. They created art. They created beauty. Black art history isn't limited to the Harlem Renaissance nor the month of February. It existed before and has continued after. And we can celebrate Black history every day. You might be surprised at how much art by Black people is contained within the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection. On this tour, you will see an impressive survey of African American art from 1850s to the present.
