What is a Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach?
Creativity is an essential part of life—a pathway to deepening your relationship with yourself. It’s a life force that makes living more bearable. Not every creative project is meant to generate monetary compensation; sometimes our creative work exists simply as a self-serving habit or ritual.

Yet life often gets in the way of making time for our creative work. When things get tough, the first activities we tend to abandon are the very ones that bring us joy. We sacrifice pleasure even though maintaining an active creative life connects us with our higher selves.

As a Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach, I’ll serve as your guide through procrastination, perfectionism, and self-doubt so you can achieve your creative and artistic goals. Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coaching supports artists and creatives by breaking big projects into small, manageable steps, making the creative process feel accessible, compassionate, and sustainable.

Am I the right coach for you?

I was often silent in rooms full of boisterous conversation—whether with family or friends. One night in particular, I was introduced to a group of new people from a college friend’s hometown. I genuinely wanted to know more about them, but I couldn’t find the words. In that moment, I knew something was wrong. I was so afraid of saying the wrong thing that I ended up saying nothing at all.

The arts created the foundation that eventually helped me break out of that silence. I started dancing at a young age, and by the time I was a pre-teen, I was touring internationally with a dance company. I later attended one of the best performing arts high schools in the country, followed by one of the top communications universities.
After graduation, I worked in media for a while, but I mainly continued the screenwriting I had begun in college.
While screenwriting didn’t land me a million-dollar deal, it did bring me recognition—I won a competition and placed in several others. I tried everything to get produced: joining reading groups, attending pitch events, networking, sending countless emails, and even making a few bold phone calls. Although none of my screenplays were ever produced, something more important happened: I developed my voice and perspective. Through writing, I realized how clever, funny, and smart I truly was. And I slowly began to open up.

During my Master of Fine Arts program, I was required to take a contemporary art class. I had always loved visiting art museums, but that class made me realize how much more there was to learn. I became fascinated by the theories and movements that shaped artistic change. Everything shifted. I wanted more, so I applied to become a museum docent and was accepted. After a year of training, I began conducting family tours. For the first time, I was using my voice to share knowledge with people who genuinely wanted to hear what I had to say—and I had something to say. It felt good.
What I know for sure is that the arts helped me discover my voice. Being shy and insecure in my early life stunted my growth, but placing myself in environments where I had to be courageous allowed me to develop the confidence to speak to anyone. Back in college, I never imagined I would become a Doctor of Philosophy or a university writing professor who stands in front of students and lectures daily. Yet that is exactly what I do—because I learned to use my voice through creative expression.

The renowned European artist Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” From my experience, I know this to be true. Being afraid to express myself left me silent. But channeling my creative energy into writing, art, and communication opened me up to the world—and opened the world to me. I learned that people do want to hear what I have to say, and what I have to say matters.
