Gordon Parks

1912-2006

Gordon Parks was a freelance photographer at Vogue before becoming a staff writer and photographer with the leading photo magazine at the time Life Magazine. His photo-essays on discrimination in the United States at the time alerted the larger population of the inequities black Americans were facing especially in the south. Parks was a true Renaissance man. Although he had a successful career as a documentary photographer, he was quite well known for directing the 1970s blaxploitation film, Shaft.
